GABS 2024 countdown

Thanks to the crew who rocked up to BentSpoke to countdown the GABS hottest 100. Biug congrats to BentSpoke and Cranky for coming in #3. Another great result for the local brewers!

Kegerator Raffle

With thanks to former member Peter Pick for his generous donation, the club is raffling a second hand (in very good condition) Three Tap Keg King kegerator at the June club meeting (6th June 2024). The kegerator is a Keg-King “Kegmaster Series 3” 3x tap kegerator that’s been set up to control the temperature via wifi. New lines and fitting are being donated by Mashematics.

The only condition is you have to get involved with the club to get entries, like volunteering to judge or steward at competitions, or bringing a keg of your latest to club meetings. Full details about how you can obtain entries into this raffle can be found here.

16-18 February 2024: Multicultural Festival 

Multi-Culti is back for 2024 and the club will be selling local Canberra brews (commercial) at our stall. It’s always great fun and a really important event for the club each year as it helps fund the club’s activities and provides an opportunity to promote and welcome potential members.

7 March 2024: Club Meeting and AGM

As usual the club meeting will be at the Polish White Eagle Club. Please support our hosts by buying your first drink from The Polo, or arrive early and explore their menu.

There will be our brew-education session brought to you by Kurtz, the 6-pack swap and the club raffle. Don’t forget to bring along your latest or greatest brew to share (bottles or kegs) and new members are always welcome.

If you’re interested in ridesharing, then start a conversation on the forum or the Facebook page and, last of all, please consider sitting this meeting out if you’ve tested positive to COVID.

AGM: The AGM covers off a range of club business, but of particular note is the Committee election.

If you are interested in helping run the club as a member of the Committee, express your interest in advance of the AGM by contacting the committee, or get in touch with the person who currently holds a position you’re interested in, or email president@canberrabrewers.com.au or editor@canberrabrewers.com.au. Nominations are welcome on the night as well.

Joining the Committee is a really great way to get more involved in the Club, meet more members, and help make the Club as great as it can be. If you’re interested in helping to run the club, please consider nominating yourself before the meeting! The Committee is currently comprised of the following positions:

16 March 2024: Club Competition 1

The first competition is coming up quickly, so better get brewing. Nic and Ed are innovating by opening The Club Comps to the public. Entries (and the competition website) are opening soon on 17th of February, and don’t forget to sign up to judge or steward too!

Don’t forget the Best of Show will be brewed at Cypher Brewing! So please thank them for sponsoring the Club Competitions by visiting them in Gungahlin and tasting some of their brews.

We hope you’ve had a relaxing break filled with a few froths and bit of brewing thrown in too. There’s a bunch of events coming up in the next few weeks, February and even a couple of competitions in the pipeline for you to starting prepping.

27th January 2024: GABS countdown @ BentSpoke in Braddon

The Club has booked one of the big outdoor tables at BentSpoke to countdown the GABS hottest 100 and celebrate the winners. #Cranky_No1_2024

The Club will be putting on some snacks throughout the afternoon, so come along!

Brewers of Canberra!

Christmas is coming round the corner, and there is just enough time to squeeze in the December meeting and the Christmas Party to finish off the year.

The Christmas Party will be on 10 December from 12 noon to 5PM at the BentSpoke Cannery. Come along to share in some great food and beer. More details to come.

Education – This month, Kurtz is planning a Christmas surprise. Think along the lines of “A Christmas Carol” and “The Grinch”, also more to come.

Bent Brewer Award – Nic, Ed and our special guest Richard Watkins (of BentSpoke fame) will be presenting the BentBrewer award at the December meeting. The judging took place with Richard, Dan (BentSpoke), Benny and Chuck judging these beers at BentSpoke’s brewpub.

For the uninitiated, the Bent Brewer is the Best of Show award from the ACT Championships. There’s been some great beer in the past years, come along to find out who wins for 2023.

12 Beers of Christmas Swap – Have you got something Christmas themed to share in the six-pack swap?

As usual, it’s a great opportunity to try beers from the club’s amazing brewers and explore some styles you might not have brewed before. It’s also handy to get some samples to brush up on your judging over the holidays! Sign up on the forum here or on the members Facebook page here.

Brewers of Canberra!

The next Canberra Brewers meeting is on 2nd November @ 7:30pm located at the Polish White Eagle Club. Please support our hosts by buying your first drink from the Polo, or arrive early and explore their menu.

I sampled a Polish ‘doughtnut’ (handmade by the Polo grannies) just before the Oktoberfest meeting and can recommend it if you’re looking for a snack.

Education 

Kurtz will be running through the sinister and irreversible effects of oxygen in your brewing process and the possible methods of reduction (…get it?)

Competitions update:

Nic and Ed will be presenting the awards from the ACT Championships.

Also keep an eye out for further communications about judging for the BentBrewer (ACT Champs Best of Show). Nic and Ed will be sending out key details soon.
