Brewers,

I’m happy to announce that we’ve partnered with the White Eagle Polish Club in Turner, ACT to host our monthly club meetings following the Bentspoke Cannery in Mitchell commencing significant production line upgrades, rendering the venue no longer viable for club meetings. We cannot thank Bentspoke enough for their hospitality in hosting us for the monthly club meetings.

The club’s president, Andrew Bajkowski, has been very accommodating in our enquiries and is happy to work with us moving into the future for monthly club meetings – as well as other events.
This is overall a great result for the club. The White Eagle is located at the Turner shops, directly across from venues such as The Duxton. This gives members an option to grab dinner before heading to the club meeting. Additionally, it is more centrally located in the city, improving travel opportunities for our southside members. One change to the standard schedule, is that club meetings are to occur on Tuesday nights rather than Thursdays – this is due to an existing booking with the club Hall. If this changes in future you can be sure I’ll be grabbing the Thursday timeslot. Until then, we apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Look out for posts on the forum, and the Canberra Brewers Members Facebook group, for confirmation of the next club meeting.
Looking forward to enjoying a beer with our club members, and prospective newcomers, in the coming months as we return to our standard club meeting schedule.
MTB
Club President

Brewers,

In light of the heightened level of caution surrounding the recent growth in COVID-19 detections around the country the Committee has decided to postpone what would have been our monthly meeting this Thursday, 1 July 2020.

The recent mask mandate introduced by ACT Health (https://www.covid19.act.gov.au/act-status-and-response/face-masks) and other COVID-related measures show the potential seriousness of the wider situation and have informed the caution behind our decision. At this stage we consider our responsibility to Canberra Brewers’ Club members and as a community group is to hold off on promoting an event where people will gather. For members’ and the community’s safety.

We will have an update next week as to when we may be able to reschedule or if we will have to give this month a miss.

Stay safe, mask up and please reach out if you ever have any concerns or suggestions on how we can make sure our meetings and events are COVID-safe. Hopefully we can share a brew sooner rather than later.

It’s the start of June in Canberra and winter is definitely here – the last mixed six of beers I purchased was almost exclusively imperial brown ales and stouts!

Education

Dan Rayner from BenSpoke is going to be taking us through their yeast laboratory and talk about some of the work he is doing there. That’s rad.

6-pack swap

This keeps being my favourite thing between meetings. Bring 6 of your brews and you’ll go home with a mixed 6 of beers made by your fellow club members. The more people we get the better, there isn’t a limit on the number of people who can take part and it’s a great way to get feedback for brewers of all abilities. Label your beers and post what you’re bringing on the forum https://www.canberrabrewers.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8720&p=70347#p70347

2021 Club Competition

Entries have closed for the 2021 Club Competition! Judging is next weekend on 5-6 June. Allocations have been sent around but we can always do with more people helping out and it’s a great way to see how a competition works. Check out the forum for details.

Raffle

We’ve got a variety of great prizes again in this month’s raffle, from our valued sponsors – including a beer pack from Plonk!

BJCP

The BJCP tasting course continues with wheat and some pale ales last week. We are struggling to find a commercial examples of some styles. If you want to assist, please keep an eye on the BJCP section of the forum – you may have a bottle or two of a home crafted version of the style we we can’t find are keen to take off your hands.

Forum

You may have noticed some changes in the forum lately. Apparently we had to upgrade it and the process remains underway. Tapatalk is currently not working and we’re not sure when it will be, so best access the forum through a browser on any devices.

Cheers!

Hot off heels of a successful International Homebrew Day, it’s time for our May meeting!

Education

Australian and multi-ACT champion brewer Lawfo will be taking us through the Czech Premium Pale Lager style – including his tips to brew a great one and a tasting! This is a really great opportunity to hear direct from one of the top brewers in the country. He’s also a top guy! Always a great source of advice or to discuss your latest brew.

6-pack swap

This month’s 6-pack swap is looking good and can always do with more contributions! Last month had some huge numbers and huge beers so let’s keep that up. Our wonderful sponsor Mashematics has yet again thrown in 3 bags of malt to be drawn out and taken home by 3 lucky swappers. This month it’s 2kg of Gladfield American Ale, 1kg of Gladfield Brown and 1kg of Gladfield light crystal.

Just bring 6 of your brews and you’ll go home with a mixed 6 of beers made by your fellow club members. The more people we get the better, there isn’t a limit on the number of people who can take part and it’s a great way to get feedback for brewers of all abilities. Raffle

We’ve got a variety of great prizes again in this month’s raffle, from our valued sponsors – more details on the night.

Library

Did you know the club has a library? Well, it does! It’s an amazing resource of books about brewing, about beer, about cooking things to go with beer…really, there are heaps of books! Ask anyone in the committee or who looks like they’re in the know, or look it up on the forum.

Hoping to see you there on thursday or sometime soon! Cheers!

Kip.
