Canberra Brewers Oktoberfest Preview

G’day everyone! Now the moment you have all been waiting for, it’s our annual celebration of the very best of Germanic traditions.

The club’s annual Oktoberfest celebration will be held on the 6th of October at Zierholz in Fyshwick. This celebratory gathering stands in as a replacement for our business as usual October club meeting. Please note the change of venue this month to the Zierholz Premium Brewery at 7/19-25 Kembla St, Fyshwick.

Oktoberfest 2016 @ Zierholz – last chance for tickets

Oktobetrfest is upon us. Without a ticket still? Online ticket sales have now closed, however there may be some available on the door so get in touch via the forums club meetings page if you want to be involved. All the action kicks off at 7.00pm, with dinner being served by 7.45pm. Please bring your beer along to share with (and even compete against) your fellow brewers. Please post beers you were thinking of bringing on the forum here. On the night, we’ll be running a beer competition for best german beer – with prizes to win (2 x 5L Zierholz kegs for 1st place, Homebrew vouchers for 2nd, 3rd). Our recently crowned top-scoring BJCP examinees Chekkie and Mashhead will step up to undertake the tough task of judging the competition.  

ACT’s Wrap & off to Nationals

After a busy two days of judging 196 beers on 17-18 September, the results are all finalised and up on the forum. Another big thank-you to all the judges and stewards who gave up a large part of their weekend to help out on either day (many on both). By all reports everything went very smoothly on the day. A massive congratulations to Mashhead for his Leipziger Gose (winning Champion Beer) and Lawfo for going back-to-back as Champion Brewer. Good luck to everyone who qualified for the Australian Amateur Brewing Championship! I hear the beers are already on their way to Adelaide for the 13th October!

Oktoberfest Raffle

We are continuting every other month to add some of the best new home brew related materials to our library collection, so be sure to head to the club’s online library catalogue at https://canberrabrewers.librarika.com/ to peruse this great resource. You can reserve a copy of something and we’ll deliver it at the meeting. If you recently borrowed a book at the September meeting, and don’t have an account already, please set one up using the link above and email our Education Officer Patrick Baggoley to confirm the loan.
