Club Competition Two Report

By Chris De La Rue, Competition Secretary

Club completion #2 was judged on Sunday 17 June 2012 at Billy’s house in Hughes, and 36 entries were received by the closing date/time (split over three flights)  Intro

  • Flight #1 Low Alcohol, Strong Lager >6% and Stouts
Judges: Billy, Pome (Jamie) and Brewtus (Craig)
  • Flight #2 Pilsener, Amber & Dark Lager and Belgian Strong Ale >6%
Judges: Mozzie (Paul H), Dicko (Tom D) and Martin Budden
  • Flight #3 Pale Ale, American Pale Ale and Strong Ale >6%

Like all club completions expectations were high for quality of the beers hit the judge’s palates, and while there were a couple of categories that did not have entries, we however have a very good mix of beers to judge, and I am very pleased to announce that seven gold, eleven silver and nine bronze medals were awarded on the day.

 The top beers were:

Bruce McIntosh          Belgian Golden Strong Ale      126 Points (Gold)
Martin Buggen            Munich Dunkel                         126 Points (Gold)
Craig Stokes                 Australian Pale Ale                  120 Points (Gold)
Peter Collins                English Pale Ale                        120 Points (Gold)
Bruce Arnold               Doppelbock                                119 Points (Gold)

I am also please to say that we had a full contingent of judges (9) and stewards (3) for the comp, and I thank those members for offering up their help in a timely manner, as it makes my job much easier.

Stewards were: Charles N, Partick B and Kevin H

The next club comp will be held on Saturday 25 August 2012 (Location TBA)
Entries close noon Sunday 19 August 2012.
