Canberra Brewers Meeting 7th November 2018

7th November 2018 – 7:30pm @ Gorman House

Education Session

This month we welcome a club legend Steve Kirby of Stone Dog Meadery.  Steve will be talking to us about Braggots and how you can make them at home.  This is sure to be a really interesting session so make sure you’re at the meeting by 7.30 to get a seat.

Library

Make sure you check out the library account.  Visit: https://canberrabrewers.librarika.com/ and check out some great resources and reserve a book or two to read over the next month.  You can reserve a copy of something and we’ll deliver it at the meeting.  If the book is on loan, email education@canberrabrewers.com.au and we’ll arrange it to be brought back for you to borrow.  Don’t have access to the library? Email us and we’ll hook you up.

Six-Pack Swap

Bring along a six pack of your own crafted brews to the November meeting, swap and go home with a mixed six pack. A great way to share your brewing and sample the efforts of other members across a range of beer styles.  Add your beer to the forum list and bring them along to the November meeting (with an identifying label or distinguishing mark so we all know what we’re drinking when we get them home).

Raffle

4kg of locally produced honey + other prizes

2018 Club Member of the Year

On Thursday the 1st of November you would have received an email about The Craig Robinson Memorial Trophy which is awarded to a club member who has demonstrated passion, generosity and devotion to the club over the last year.  If you think there is club member that has demonstrated these attributes then please forward your nomination to CRMtrophy@canberrabrewers.com.au by Sunday 25th November 2018 8pm.  For more details please read the 2018 Club Member of the Year link.

BJCP Exam Preparation

We still have some spots available for our BJCP tasting exam scheduled for 24th February – and to help get everybody ready, are gearing up for some exam study sessions.  Expanding on the tasting course we run each year, these sessions will focus on how to properly judge beer, and fill out a quality BJCP scoresheet.  Put your name down for a session in the thread here.  Patrick can provide more information at the meeting on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, we also need beer to practice on!  We’re after home-brew that we can judge in an exam-type setting – preferably beers that fit one of the classic BJCP styles, but we can be a little flexible.  Good and faulted beers welcome.  We’re after at least 500mL of each sample and are happy to collect at the meeting. Flick an email to bjcp@canberrabrewers.com.au if you can help.  We can give feedback to the brewer, or keep the brewer anonymous if they wish.

NOOKIE !

You look like you need a weekend away with that someone special.
Bring beer to the meeting and your committee will furnish you with additional entries in the annual N.O.O.K.I.E. raffle.  Brewers who bring at least 750mls of beer will receive 1 N.O.O.K.I.E. entry and brewers who bring a keg will receive 3 N.O.O.K.I.E. entries.  Brewers can claim their N.O.O.K.I.E. entries from the raffle table when tickets are being sold on the night.
