July 2018 Meeting preview

4th July 2018 7:30 pm

Education Session

HOPS!
Starting at 7:30 sharp, the education session will focus on a dry hop experiment comparing cryo vs pellet hops.  There will be plenty of beer for you to make up your own mind on which is best.  We’ll also have a hop rhizome swap for all those with green thumbs and we will be providing plenty of info to help get you started.  So far we have Cascade, Chinook, EKG, Cluster and Super Alpha ready to go into your backyard.

Library

Want to know more about hops?  We can sort you out with books like For the Love of Hops by Stan Hieronymus, The Homebrewer’s Garden by Dennis and Joe Fisher and IPA: Brewing Techniques, Recipes and the Evolution of India Pale Ale by Mitch Steel.  Make sure you check out the library account at https://canberrabrewers.librarika.com/ and check out some great resources and reserve a book or two to read over the next month.  You can reserve a copy of something and we’ll deliver it at the meeting.  If the book is on loan, email education@canberrabrewers.com.au and we’ll arrange it to be brought back for you to borrow.  Don’t have access to the library? Email us and we’ll hook you up.

IHBD Beers

International Home Brew Day beers just keep on giving!
Scotty’s Honey lager and Gilks’ stout will both be pouring.

Raffle Prizes

We’ve got all the weird and wonderful hop products you can imagine up for raffle: cryo/hash/liquid/syringe/pellet.

Inkbird have also kindly donated a temperature controller for the raffle. The duel temp controller can connect to your fridge and heating source to control fermenting temp and includes a display for measured temperature and set-point temperature at the same time. More info available here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322181962638
and here.

We also have a 500g jar of honey generously supplied by the ACT Beekeepers Association as a thank-you for the mead talk the club did.

Club Comp 2

Club Comp 2 is on Sunday 22nd of July.  Put your hand up to judge or steward here and get 5 Nookies.  The comp is a registered BJCP event and you get points for judging or stewarding too.

Six-Pack Swap

Of course, the Six-Pack Swap is happening!
It’s simple!  The Six-pack swap is a great opportunity to share a few of your beers with other members.  Bring a six-pack of your homebrew and take home a mixed six pack of individually crafted beers from a range of club members. The number of participants is potentially limitless!
Please consider signing onto the six-pack swap on the forum!
As of today, 6 brewers have signed up.  If you don’t have six of the same beer to swap, you can also bring a mixed bag.

Bring Beer, Get Nookie

Homebrewing rocks!! Sharing rocks too.  You get feels from sharing the beer you make.  Club meetings give you the opportunity for you to share your beers with others and the committee acknowledges those who contribute to club meetings in this way.

To further encourage and foster beer sharing, we will be awarding additional entries in the annual N.O.O.K.I.E. raffle to brewers who bring beer to meetings.

Brewers who bring at least 750mls of beer will receive 1 N.O.O.K.I.E. entry and brewers who bring a keg will receive 3 N.O.O.K.I.E. entries.

Brewers can claim their N.O.O.K.I.E. entries from the raffle table when tickets are being sold on the night.
