Greetings brewers! Plenty to share this week, since as well as a club meeting, there’s also a craft beer bar reopening, a beer company launch and a brewery’s weekend of anniversary celebrations!

APA five ways

Next Thursday, June 4, at the Harmonie German Club in Narrabundah brings us some of the fruits of our fantastic International Homebrew Day from earlier this month, with five American Pale Ales all brewed on different systems by different brewers.Do you think you’ll be able to pick which beer came from which brewer?

Who will win from the great Grainfather v Braumeister face-off?

The meeting will kick off from 8pm, to allow for people to join in after the Pact Beer Co launch (more below).

And of course, don’t forget to bring along your own brews to share with fellow brewers, buy a few tickets in the raffle, and pick up some books from the club library (more on these below).

Beer, beer everywhere!

As well as the next meeting from the best homebrew club in Australia, there is a stack of awesome stuff happening in the national (beer) capital over the next week, all of which has some connection to the Canberra Brewers.

Pot Belly reboot!

In case you hadn’t seen it all over facebook and the forum, our President, Joel Baines has bought into the Pot Belly Bar in Belconnen, which is hosting a grand official opening this Saturday, from midday to midnight! Plenty of club members will be heading along, so come and have a pint with us. Details on the Pot Belly Bar facebook page.

Kevin Hingston goes pro!

As he announced at the May meeting, our back-to-back ACT Amateur Brewing Champion and 2014 national champion has taken a leap into the professional world and has started Pact Beer Co. After a good showing of the Three Lakes Hefeweizen at the GABS festival in Melbourne, Pact will launch its Mount Tennent APA at Transit Bar on Thursday night, from 6pm.

To allow for members to get along to the launch before the meeting, we’re not running a 7:30pm education session, but will instead try to organise some car pooling between Civic and Narrabundah for the meeting. Check out the forum for details.

Bentspoke’s Big Birthday Bash!

The brewery built by one of the club’s longest-standing members, Richard Watkins, (with a bit of help from a bunch of tallented Canberra Brewers members) is celebrating it’s first anniversary throughout the June long weekend.

Here’s what they’ve got planned:

Friday, June 5 @ noon Big Birthday Weekend and Scotch Ale Beer Launch

Saturday, June 6 @ 7pm Exclusive Draughters Lock-in including the launch of special birthday beer (it’s a 15% dark – exact style will be kept a secret until on the night)

Sunday, June 7 @ Noon Big Bike Ride and Barbie plus launch of Dark IPA

Monday, June 8 – Dark and Sour launch, and all four birthday beers available on a special sample bar for the day.

Dixon doughs in

And in the past week, 2014 Wig and Pen Trophy Winner Tom Dixon has pulled on the rubber gloves and helped brew his best of show altbier recipe at the brew pub’s new ANU location. It’ll be great to see a Canberra Brewer’s beer on tap at the Wig again!

And back to the meeting …
